Specialists at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialise in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They devote an average of ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received comprehensive health care training with an emphasis on issues involving the feet and ankles. They are trained to manage issues varying from common problems for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which give them the expertise necessary to conduct surgery on those conditions that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet commonly experience.
