Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They put in about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received comprehensive healthcare education with a stress on issues concerning the ankles and feet. They are studied to treat concerns ranging from standard ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more obscure for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical instruction which provide them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors additionally have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems facilitates a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and minimize the risk of many problems which the feet routinely experience.
