Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend around a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in point of fact many podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received encompassing medical training with an importance on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to handle problems varying from typical afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more challenging for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical education which provide them the expertise required to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and reduce the chances of countless complications which the feet usually encounter.
