Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists devote an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in reality several podiatry training programs are contained within these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have received substantial health care instruction with an emphasis on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are trained to handle problems varying from usual afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more intricate like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical training which give them the prior experience crucial to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are ideally handled through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of conditions which the feet typically encounter.
