Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend about ten years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and various podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received comprehensive health care training with an emphasis on problems involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to handle problems stretching from normal disorders such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more obscure like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which give them the skill necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors additionally have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and prevent many problems which the feet generally experience.
