Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact a number of podiatry training programs lie inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received significant medical instruction with an emphasis on difficulties pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat complications ranging from basic ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical instruction which supply them the skill needed to execute surgical treatment on those troubles that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and prevent many conditions which the feet generally experience.
