Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They put in an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to typical medical school and various podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received significant health care instruction with a concentration on conditions pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to manage concerns ranging from familiar ailments for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more puzzling for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which give them the skill vital to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems enables a Podiatric physician to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet typically experience.
