Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend about 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in reality several podiatry training programs lie inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received wide-ranging medical training with an emphasis on problems regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat problems extending from normal problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more perplexing such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical instruction which furnish them the experience needed to perform surgery on those issues that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and defend against many conditions which the feet typically encounter.
