Medical doctors here at The Foot Institute – Camrose concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend an average of a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles usual medical school and numerous podiatry programs lie inside these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive medical training with an emphasis on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to care for problems ranging from commonplace problems for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more challenging for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical training which supply them the skill necessary to perform surgery on those concerns that are best handled through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations makes it possible for a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and defend against many conditions which the feet commonly experience.
