Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Camrose concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend about 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located inside these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired extensive medical training with an attention to on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are qualified to deal with issues extending from general conditions for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical education which provide them the prior experience required to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Comprehending biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and prevent numerous complications which the feet usually encounter.
