Physicians at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors spend approximately a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive medical training with a focus on difficulties pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are educated to manage complications varying from regular ailments such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more challenging such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have significant surgical training which provide them the practical experience needed to perform surgery on those complications that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and avoid numerous problems which the feet generally experience.
