Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and as a matter of fact a number of podiatry programmes are located inside these academic institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical education with an attention to on issues concerning the ankles and feet. They are taught to deal with concerns stretching from normal disorders for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical education which give them the experience crucial to perform surgery on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities enables a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and prevent a large number of troubles which the feet normally encounter.
