Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest an average of ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and in reality many podiatry programs are located within these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received encompassing medical training with a stress on issues regarding the ankles and feet. They are qualified to manage difficulties extending from familiar afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical training which give them the expertise needed to carry out surgical treatment on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and help prevent numerous issues which the feet typically encounter.
