Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They devote about a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles usual medical school and in fact many podiatry programmes are contained within these schools. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received substantial healthcare training with a main focus on complications regarding the feet and ankles. They are trained to care for issues extending from simple problems such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical instruction which furnish them the prior experience needed to execute surgery on those complications that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and avoid many conditions which the feet regularly encounter.
