Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. They put in an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programs lie within these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have acquired significant health care training with a main focus on conditions concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat problems extending from simple afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical education which supply them the experience necessary to execute surgery on those troubles that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics that can offer pain relief and avoid countless conditions which the feet usually encounter.
