Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend approximately ten years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact many podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained comprehensive medical training with an attention to on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are instructed to treat conditions varying from conventional conditions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are a lot more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical education which provide them the skill necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet generally experience.
