Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in about ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality several podiatry programmes are located within these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained extensive medical training with an emphasis on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are trained to deal with concerns stretching from simple disorders like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which give them the practical experience necessary to execute surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Foot doctor to create footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and avoid many conditions which the feet regularly encounter.
