Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest an average of a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive healthcare education with an emphasis on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to manage complications varying from basic afflictions for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical instruction which give them the practical experience needed to conduct surgical treatment on those conditions that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and help prevent numerous issues which the feet typically experience.
