Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest around 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and several podiatry programmes lie inside these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained wide-ranging health care training with an emphasis on conditions involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to handle concerns extending from familiar ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical training which provide them the experience necessary to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatric physician to create footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of many problems which the feet usually encounter.
