Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialise in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend approximately ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to general medical school and numerous podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive medical training with an emphasis on issues concerning the ankles and feet. They are trained to address concerns stretching from familiar disorders such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which furnish them the experience needed to execute surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and avoid many troubles which the feet regularly encounter.
