Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired comprehensive medical training with an emphasis on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are studied to care for problems extending from conventional disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which supply them the experience required to execute surgery on those troubles that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and minimize the risk of many issues which the feet typically encounter.
