Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and several podiatry training programs are located within these schools. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained extensive health care training with a main focus on difficulties involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to manage complications ranging from normal afflictions for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more intricate like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which give them the expertise necessary to conduct surgery on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Comprehending biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and prevent many conditions which the feet generally encounter.
