Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They spend approximately 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in fact many podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
Upon the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have received extensive medical training with a focus on concerns pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are instructed to deal with problems varying from typical conditions for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical instruction which furnish them the prior experience essential to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and prevent numerous troubles which the feet typically encounter.
