Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors put in approximately 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained extensive health care training with a focus on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to treat problems ranging from normal afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical training which furnish them the skill required to perform surgery on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and protect against numerous conditions which the feet usually experience.
