Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and many podiatry programs are contained inside these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical training with an attention to on complications involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are qualified to handle difficulties varying from familiar disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more puzzling including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical education which provide them the experience required to perform surgery on those concerns that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Podiatric doctor to develop footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of many issues which the feet regularly experience.
