Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest an average of a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs lie within these schools. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received significant medical training with a concentration on issues regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are educated to care for issues extending from commonplace ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more perplexing like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical education which furnish them the practical experience required to conduct surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet usually encounter.
