Red Deer Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs are contained inside these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received encompassing medical education with an emphasis on issues concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to treat problems extending from typical problems like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which provide them the experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally handled through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of complications which the feet normally experience.
