Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend about ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programmes are located inside these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired substantial medical instruction with a concentration on difficulties pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are instructed to treat problems ranging from conventional conditions for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more complicated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which supply them the practical experience crucial to execute surgery on those troubles that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and protect against numerous issues which the feet regularly encounter.
