Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They devote about ten years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact various podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received extensive medical instruction with an emphasis on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to handle concerns ranging from basic ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical instruction which provide them the skill necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those issues that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems makes it easy for a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and minimize the risk of countless conditions which the feet routinely experience.
