Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists devote approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact a number of podiatry programmes are contained within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have acquired extensive medical instruction with a concentration on problems involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to address complications varying from normal conditions for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more challenging such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which supply them the practical experience necessary to conduct surgery on those issues that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and prevent many conditions which the feet regularly encounter.
