Physicians at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest an average of ten years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact a number of podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained significant healthcare training with a main focus on difficulties concerning the feet and ankles. They are educated to treat concerns ranging from normal ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical instruction which give them the skill essential to perform surgery on those concerns that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and prevent a large number of complications which the feet normally experience.
