Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They put in an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and actually many podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained thorough medical training with a main focus on concerns regarding the ankles and feet. They are instructed to manage problems extending from conventional afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical instruction which provide them the prior experience crucial to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of many complications which the feet generally encounter.
