Specialists at The Foot Institute – Drayton Valley specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend approximately a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality several podiatry programmes are located inside these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained significant health care education with a concentration on conditions regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to manage problems ranging from simple ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more perplexing for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical education which supply them the experience required to carry out surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait problems enables a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet frequently encounter.
